If you are looking for a fun way to bring a bit of colour into your kitchen then a splash of mint green (like Smeg's Mint FAB28 fridge, above) is one of this season's most popular shades. As one of our four top kitchen renovation tips for 2012, incorporating colour into your home isn't something to be afraid of... trust us! Pastel greens, soft pinks, pale blues, purples, yellows and oranges are fast becoming the favourite hues amongst home builders, renovators and decorators.
For those of you who feel a little hesitate about painting all the walls, cupboards and everything in between a colour other than white, then the good news is that you don't! A few simple ideas to add a burst of colour to your kitchen are...
- Add a coloured appliance: A fun way to experiment with different colours is to introduce large or small appliances in your desired shade. For example, Smeg's colourful range of FAB28 fridges are not only eye catching, they are also very cool in their retro design. If a coloured fridge seems a little too daunting then start off with a kettle, toaster or one of these stunning KitchenAid mixers, available in a variety of different shades.
- Add a colourful splashback: Your oven splashback is the perfect place to throw in a touch of colour. We are in love with the variations of coloured and textured glass splashbacks now available on the market. For some ideas and quotes, check out TheSplashbackCo.
- Paint a cupboard, shelf or wall: There is no rule to say that you can't experiment with colour by painting just one or two cupboards/cabinets, a shelf or just one feature wall. Soft shades such as mint green work really well when used in contrast to your trusty white paint. By creating a focal point, this can create a dramatic effect and help draw eyes to one area, for example a coloured tiled wall. Similarly a chalkboard wall is a funky, industrial-inspired way of creating contrast in your kitchen.
- Choose colourful crockery and accessories: One very clever way to inject some life into a dull kitchen is to display colourful crockery and accessories. Now is the perfect time to dust off grandma's old coloured tea and plate sets. Look out for bold ceramics, coloured glassware, vases and bowls at garage sales, markets and op shops and display them on counter tops and shelves for an instant pop of colour.
